Mental Healthcare that works
for you.

I  provide compassionate and personalized science- based psychiatric care that respects who you are, and that is directed only by your needs and interests and for your well being. Not the interests of a third party directing your care for their benefit.

Meet Dr. Michael Clark

I am an experienced psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist with a passion for teaching and drive to help individuals manage their mental health in our dysfunctional health care system. In addition to my psychiatric training, I have a PhD in molecular neurobiology and years of research studying serotonin and neuropeptides in stress response.  I left academia due to illness, an experience that has given me a perspective on our health care system that most physicians lack.  After recovering my health, I decided to return to medicine because of the acute need for more psychiatrists.

I utilize a science-based, evidence-based eclectic approach.  But I am mindful of the limitations of any single approach,  especially given the problems with our current diagnostic labels and large gaps in our current understanding of the origin of mental health issues.   I am committed to providing patient care that respects who you are and your goals in seeking treatment.

As your psychiatrist, I will work for your interests alone, and see myself as a consultant giving you the best advice I can provide and seeking to lay out treatment options for you to choose from, based on what is important to you. I hope you will contact me to see how we might work together for your mental health.

I am currently accepting new patients and offering a sizable discount for the first new patients.  Next day appointments are available and even same day appointments may be possible. Office hours are flexible and weekend or after work hour appointments can be arranged.  Please contact me for more information.

Services I Offer

Comprehensive services designed to address a variety of mental health needs.

Psychiatric Assessment

I begin with a thorough psychiatric assessment to understand your unique situation and develop a tailored treatment plan.  Standard DSM5 diagnosis is informed by insights from Hierarchical Taxonomy Of Psychopathology (HiTOPS) and NIMH's Research Domain Criteria.  Both are diagnostic frameworks under development to improve the description and treatment of mental heath issues.

Individual Psychotherapy

Drawing from principles of a variety of evidence based psychotherapies, individual supportive psychotherapy sessions provide a  space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings with professional guidance.  I am happy to provide medical management while working with your psychotherapist as part of a team approach to your care.

Medication Management

If medication is part of your treatment plan, my extensive  experience in neuropsychopharmacology and  experimental neuroscience provides a deep foundation to guide your treatment for optimal results. Careful consideration is given to the latest understanding of neuroscience, risk/benefit considerations, and knowing not only when to start medications, but when to stop them.

Psychoeducation

By providing knowledge about diagnoses, treatments, and navigating the health care system, I help you manage your condition and improve your health.

Other related services

I will perform a variety of other services and paperwork, such as ESA documentation, disability evaluations or leave paperwork for regular clients as a standard part of medically appropriate care.  There may be additional charges for the time spent doing these, and they are only performed for regular clients, not as standalone services.
